Skills + Development

There are many pathways, both traditional and non-traditional, to reaching your dream career.

Victoria offers an incredible range training opportunities—from University degrees to adult education classes. There are also TAFE courses, apprenticeships, traineeships, and hundreds of short courses available for all industries.

VET in Schools

Vocational education in schools allows students of a senior level to develop industry based knowledge, employability skills and an understanding of the working world. Year 11 and 12 students can gain further education in a nationally accredited program whilst still finishing their VCE.

School Based Apprenticeships and Training

A school based apprenticeship or traineeship combines school studies, part time practical experience in the workplace and formal structured training with a TAFE or training provider.

Placements and Volunteer Work

Placements in the workplace can be undertaken whilst studying to enhance the students experience in a real working environment. Placements paid or unpaid, are a great way of networking and learning what it really means to work in the industry which relates to your future career. Volunteer work can be equally as important in gaining valuable experience; it can also help you determine the career direction.

Mature Age

Mature age persons can undertake trainee ships and enter into TAFE training courses. Back to work mature age workers can also undertake work based training which allows them to be paid whilst entering back into the workforce and cementing their career options.

Apprenticeship or Traineeships

An apprenticeship or traineeship can full time or part time and consists of an agreement between an employer and employee in which the employee will be learning the skills they need for the job whilst working. Learning from an employer can be combined with formal based training to ensure the employee gains a nationally accredited certificate. The benefit to apprenticeships and traineeships is that you get paid whilst you are learning.

Short Courses

There are thousands of short courses available Australia wide. Whilst they are not nationally accredited, they still give a beneficial insight into an industry. Furthermore they give valuable knowledge and skills which can be taken into further training or the work place.
