NCVER Research Project
Design Education in VET
SkillsHub conducts ongoing research into the industry’s training and knowledge needs. In 2007, SkillsHub was invited by the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) to conduct research into design education in the vocational education and training sector. For this project, SkillsHub partnered with Dr Damon Cartledge and Mark Watson from La Trobe University.
The purpose of the research was to find ways to assist design educators in the VET sector to encourage creativity by developing best-fit assessment practices and to identify innovative and creative approaches within design education with implications for management training.
The methodology was mixed-mode; quantitative data was gathered through a nationally distributed survey and qualitative data was provided through the inclusion of open-ended questions, and follow-up focus groups in each state involving survey participants and other key informants, including representatives of industry and relevant professional bodies.
